Disembroidering the fear.

she didn’t think her life would bend
in sideways, splitting curlicues
contralto tones from laughing Muse
demanding that she stop and mend

and patch, and stitch, and rend some more
an e’er-unraveling tapestry
dismantling the sophistry
of separation and of war

replacing panes of silver thread
with her own hair, her skin, her mind
the fibers stretch, the spools unwind
from deep within her aching head

she didn’t know all she could lose
and still remain, a fractured seer,
disembroidering the fear
in subtle hues of blacks and blues
