The Gratitude Line.

I went for a 6-mile walk today, alone.

As I walked down the path next to the Mill River, I saw some prayer flags hanging in the trees.

As I approached, I saw that each piece of cloth had a handwritten message on it.  They were laden with love and thankfulness.

There was an explanation/invitation on a nearby tree.

Share the Power of Gratitude

I found the bin, and sure enough, there was a piece of cloth, for me, and a permanent marker.

For me?  Yes.  Someone was loving me without knowing me.

I brushed some snow off a log, sat down, and with ever-colder fingers, wrote my message of thanks.

thank you, loves

thank you, loves
for silent witness
irrepressible mirth
otters in rivers
stars in eyes
lumps in throat
my only life
a transcendent kiss

Fingers aching from gelid air, I fumbled with the clothespins to add my flag to the throng of thanks.
